Training

Induction

All new volunteers will undertake an induction which covers:

  • Organisation of Wealden Sailability
  • Session Manager responsibilities
  • Skippers Responsibilities
  • Managing Clients
  • Carers Responsibilities
  • Safety issues when handling boats on and off pontoons

Sail Training for Volunteers

Regardless of sailing experience, all volunteers will be given a log-book.  It outlines the knowledge required to be signed off before skippering the various class boats with clients on board.

Safety Boats

All volunteers are encouraged to become part of our safety team. To become a member a RYA Power Boat 2 certificate needs to be obtained. We provide courses normally prior to the sailing season commencing.

To ensure skills in handling the boats are maintained, each member of the safety team is expected to attend practice sessions prior to the season commencing and to practice throughout the season.

First Aid Training

A RYA first aid course is held at various times throughout the year.   It is asked that volunteers attend at least one of them.

Winter Talks

During January and February, a winter talk is organised for all volunteers.

Training for Client Sailors

People who sail regularly in our Hansa class boats may like to improve their sailing skills by completing our training log-book.
